Old Jewish cemetery lost in the woods
A few years ago, while roaming places near my hometown, I suddenly discovered old Jewish burial site - completely lost in the forest. The graveyard is located in the isolated wooded hillside and was established in 1780. Marble, granite, and sandstone flat shaped tombstones or finely smoothed and inscribed stones have Hebrew and German inscriptions. Some of them are almost embedded into the tree trunks. Men and women graves are separated. The series of images, processed as a project, is presented here. Boys Guys relaxing in the shade after the football game. Old men On one of my wanders, I suddenly saw a pair of old men. I approached them with considerable respect and when they noticed me too, I just gently nodded and asked - May I? And then I pressed the shutter on my camera and thanked. This photograph was later published in magazine Život (Life) – at that time the best-selling family magazine in Slovakia. The selection of other images from the 1970s, produced as a project is presented here. The complete photo book, with the title The 1970s, is available here. Mentioned book was featured on Blurb, as the book of the week. Strbske pleso is a picturesque and the most typical morain lake of glacial origin and a top tourist destination in the High Tatras, Slovakia. It is fed by underground springs and has no visible outflow stream. Its surface remains frozen for around
155 days per year. It is located on the southern side of the High Tatra Mountains, in the place where two valleys, Furkotska dolina and Mlynicka dolina, are connected at the end of the ridge of Solisko. It is situated 1,346.6 m above sea level and coveres the area of 20 ha. The lake has a capacity of 1,284,000 cubic meters, is 26 m deep in the deepest point, 640 m long and 600 m wide. The average temperature of the surface water throughout the year is 6 °C. Strbske Pleso was founded as a hiking center, and later new remedial houses, recreation facilities and a top sport complex were built. It is excellently connected to transportation links, and serves as a good starting point for a host of hiking excursions and day-trips in the mountains. Category : Landscape The ruins of Spiš Castle in eastern Slovakia form one of the largest castle-sites in Central Europe. The castle is situated above the town of Spišské Podhradie and the village of Žehra, in the region known as Spiš. It was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1993. This is one of the biggest European castles by area 41 426 m².
The castle is also frequently used as a location for films, including Dragon heart (1996), Phoenix, Kull the Conqueror (1997), The Lion in Winter (2003) and The Last Legion (2006). Spiš Castle and its surrounding is one of my favorite spots for shooting, so that's why one of my projects I dedicated to this well-known locality. Category : Landscape |
